BIG, QUICK ENERGY
The world works hard. Too hard. So hard that when the working stops for the day, we obsess (stress) about the next day and how we’re going to crawl out of our sheets and do it all over again. The rat race is a relentless sprint that leaves us with very little time for ourselves. And even in those little slivers of time where we get to drink beers and complain about our jobs and buy fancy little dish soap holders and throw pillows, we’re still too exhausted to truly enjoy any of it.
I don’t know when the hell hustle culture first popped up on the scene (was it really when Wiz Khalifa released this work of art or has it always been this bad?) but what I do know is that it’s a pretty trash way to live. Unless you get off on working overtime and posting about it on social media, then by all means, you do you. All I’m saying is, there’s something off about this whole work hard, play hard mentality when this manic mantra is kind of running us all into the ground.
Big fat sigh. Anyways.
I guess what I’m really trying to get at is, I’m tired. And I’m not talking about the kind of tiredness you feel after a night of taking jello shots and asking the DJ to play Ke$ha more times than appropriate. I’m talking about the kind of tiredness that has crawled into your bones after years of working doubles. I’m talking about the kind of lethargicness that nuzzles next to your brain and urges you to take a nap despite having had a full night’s sleep. I’m talking about the sluggishness you feel after trying to be a social butterfly when you just spent a whole year being a caterpillar inside. I’m not just tired, I’m worn the hell out.
Luckily there are a lot of things we can do to get our energy up. Sleep more, sleep less. Work smarter, not harder. Work out, stretch, do yoga. Drink a cup of coffee or two or three. Pop a B12 or chug a gallon of water. If you’re anything like me, you’ve tried it all. And still, there’s something missing. I. Need. More.
